Due to freezing nights, lack of food, and insufficient shelter, about 1.5 million people in Gaza are in dire need of humanitarian aid, the United Nations has warned.

Aid Needs Remain Immense
By scaling up the aid to a large extent, the humanitarian situation is still very bad, says the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). As per the United Nations, 1.5 million people are in urgent need of shelter that will save their lives as a large number of families have been displaced due to their homes being destroyed or they are living in tents in makeshift camps.
The UNRWA emergency shelters, in particular, offer inadequate protection from adverse weather conditions and thus increase the likelihood of children getting sick, but also the elderly.
Life-Saving Supplies Are Being Delivered – But It’s Not Enough
The United Nations and its partners in the humanitarian field have achieved some success. In fact, it has been reported that over 37,000 metric tons of aid, mostly food, have entered Gaza since the last ceasefire.

The WFP is also offering cash through a digital system to the families, production of food remains highly restricted in Gaza, as the conflict caused damage to large areas of the agricultural sector.
Meanwhile, there are quite a few worries about the availability of shelter materials. One of the most difficult issues causing serious problems is the limitation of access to humanitarian convoys. Due to limited crossings and bureaucratic difficulties, the flow of aid is still prolonged, and making it hard for humanitarian agencies to get the most vulnerable people.
Besides that, funding is a matter of concern as well. According to the UN, there is a considerable shortage in the financing of aid in Gaza.
The situation of relief work on a large scale may get to the point of making it difficult to keep it going only if there is no increased support from the international community.
Pressures for Quick and Unrestricted Aid
Officials of the UN underline the necessity for all parties to cooperate on the opening of humanitarian corridors, the safety of the civilians as the main concern and facilitate the entrance of the help sent without any delay.
They regard the complete, unimpeded provision of necessities as the only way to prevent the occurrence of extensive suffering among the displaced people of Gaza.
However, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has also a similar view and, on the contrary, it warns that if the restrictions are kept, the relief effort might have to give up. It emphasized that the continuation of the blockade situation might lead to more deaths besides the loss of the lives that have already occurred.

For 1.5 million Palestinians who have fled their homes, each day without shelter, food, or medical care is like raising the stakes.

While on the one hand humanitarian agencies are intensifying their efforts and raising the scale of their operations, the international community on the other hand is put to a test of its determination which is of utmost importance.
The promise of relief can be fulfilled only if more political will, more funding, and more crossings are available. It is only through giving unrestricted access to food, shelter, and medical aid that the agony of Gaza can be alleviated — and hope brought back.
