Strong Clarification on Mental Health Claims

There​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌ has been a lot of chatter regarding a mental health-related lawsuit against a well-known Nigerian singer, Innocent “2Baba” Idibia.

The​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌ attention has gone viral after the artist dropped a video in which he called it “a coordinated attempt to damage his image.” The vocalist mentioned that the incident had become so extreme that he had to step in and that it was having a negative impact on the people his ​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌surroundings.”

2Baba, in his video, indicated that some of his family members and associates had fabricated a story that he was mentally ill.

He asserted that the allegations were untrue and that it was very harmful. He accused the people of orchestrating a scheme to have control over his life and to influence how the public view his mental ​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌health.

The​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌ singer pointed out that the claims about his mental health were just recycled ideas. He stated that these had been his shadow, especially after his intrusion in the marriage of Annie Idibia.

According to him, it was similarly his behavior which had now been attributed to his girlfriend, Natasha, and she, he said, was the one getting the threats. The singer also stated that the issue had surpassed the level of a quarrel and that it was now a danger to human ​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌lives.

“My​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌ family was the one that tore apart my marriage with Annie. Now, they are after Natasha,” he told. Besides that, he informed that in relation to the continuous quarrel, a death threat has been sent to Natasha.

He mentioned that the level of hatred was so high that it clearly showed how big the issue ​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌was.

In his statement, he said the people who claimed they were doing it for his “protection” were in fact “putting him in more danger.” He begged them to cease their actions.

He emphasized that he was the one who had the right to choose his partner without anyone meddling. He also mentioned that the mental health issue was being used as a means to control his personal ​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌life.

“You​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌ say that you’re saving me, but you’re killing me. You are killing us,”he said.

The singer said he is still holding it together and keeping his focus. He told his audience that he had performed in Abuja recently and had been to several public events. He said if anyone had seen him, they would know that he is not lying when it comes to his mental health.

“Everybody has been seeing me out there. Anybody that has eyes knows I’m okay,” he said. He said that the ongoing accusations have gone so far that they could not be disregarded anymore.

He called it his experience as being emotional strain caused by a combination of lies and fabrications.

“What my family is doing? fabricating so many lies… It has become so dangerous. It’s not funny anymore. I’m totally devastated,” he said. The singer said he was speaking out to protect himself and protect Natasha. He asked members of the public to give him time and not to interfere in his life by spreading ​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌rumors. “Please,​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌ just don’t interfere withmy private and personal life. Just let us be,” he said.

He said that out of respect, he had kept it to himself for a long time but now, he couldn’t help but see the situation. He said that a lot more of the story would soon be visible to everyone.

“I won’t hold my tongue anymore,” he said. “Very soon, I will unload a whole lot of truth.”

This is the case that brings to light public discussions about mental health in Nigeria and how, as a result of such talks, false accusations can ruin someone’s reputation.
